Help me out

I want to run a little test.

It will help a lot of you out.
It will give the newbies an interesting
look at pattern making.

If you want to help me out here is what you do
Print out this pattern
Measuring from black line to black line it
should be 13.3 cm wide X 19 cm
When you print it out.

 It is from 2006,
pattern #266
You may already have it.

 Make the Front pattern piece

click on the drawing to enlarge it
Then right click and do a "save as"
When you find your pattern in your computer
right click and turn it to a PDF....If you
have windows 7 this is very fast and easy.
Be sure you have your printers setting
so that they Do NOT say "fit to page"
Or any of the change the size comments.
The PDF should print it at the exact size it should be.
I've tested it and it worked perfectly

This is a common simple shape top.
I want to see how many different shapes this one
pattern will make.

I'll post mine and another tomorrow.

When you have your pattern made
 and a photo taken.
Contact me below.
I will soon explain in a posting
all about this.

No one's name will be with their pattern...
Please help me out.
It will be fun!

  1. As anyone who makes lutterloh patterns know you do
  2. go through paper so buy a nice big roll of
  3. pattern paper...Nancy's notions carry some.
  4. I'd much rather fit with paper first and eliminate the
  5. really big problems, than to test everything in fabric.
Nov 2012 I have only one front pattern (thank you!).  Not enough for a comparison.  If you'd like to add to my collection, follow the directions above  You are only making the top, feel free to adjust
it for your needed corrections if you are experienced.  If not make it as it is in the pattern.

  1. Hi, I'm a newbie to Lutterloh based in the UK. I received my system last week, after having spent ages going through all the topics on this wonderful site and deciding this was the patterning system I wanted to use. I have been through the Palmer Pletsch fitting class but didn't quite get the look I wanted.

As my first experiment I used Pattern 185 from Supplement Nr. 276 and made a tissue pattern and then a toile from an old sheet. I was delighted with the result although I've discovered I am slightly bigger on the upper arm so will be altering this in future.

Anyhow, the point of this comment is that I want to take part in your experiment but have fallen at the first hurdle :-(. I can't get the pattern to print out at 13.3 cm x 19 cm.

Thanks very much for your wonderful guide to Lutterloh and I look forward to continuing coming here.

  2. Hi Patricia,
Here in lies the problem. Every printer has it's own way to set the size. Sometimes it takes a few tries. My printer is a cannon, and it takes a few drop down columns to find but I have a set the size choice. Hope you can find yours and join us....I need as many people as possible to make that front piece.

I'm also thinking the Palmer/Pletsch fitting will help you with Lutterloh fitting also.

    enjoy

  3. Hi, I managed to get the pattern printed but the nearest I could get it to was 13 x 18 cm. I've drawn the pattern and taken a photo. What next.....?

  4. Hello
I'm wonderring if I'm missing something here. Are you wanting us to make some pattern design alterations when you say how many different shapes this simple pattern will make? Any why are you saying only the front and also there seems to be 5 comments under your post that i can't get into?

I would be interested in having a go at this.

Great work u r doing here!

  5. This is a pattern test....for all the new folks. If you want to help just make the front pattern. Take a photo and send it to me. Use your own measurements for the bust and hip. Check back later to see what I'm doing. I've already got a couple of patterns from people. Not sure why you can't open the comments. That would be your settings with your server.

  10. Making a PDF. If you have windows 7, a right click will give you a drop down window with make a pdf in the list. If not you can try adjusting the size in your printer. I've put the size above. Printing at that size
allows you to get a correct pattern.

  11. Perfectnose, we're certainly not gone. We check every day for new comments. There is a tremendous wealth of information about Lutterloh patterns in our past posts. Did you have a specific question about Lutterloh that you wanted to ask?

  12. I've tried to get it printed. I wonder if knowing the dimensions of the entire image (not just inside the borders) might be a help. Or crop the image to the desired size?

The best results I've gotten so far is copy the image to word document and then adjust the size on screen. When it measures 15.2x21 cm on-screen, I got 13.4x 18.8 cm on paper. I don't have Win7, so I must copy to Word 2010, then save from there to PDF, but that results in a size of 11x15.5 cm.

I will try at home to see if I get different (better?) results at home on the iMac and open office.

I've had a Lutterloh system for ? years, but never got around to actually using it. Hopefully with this blog and the thread on PR, that may change soon!

  13. Hi Gail,
With the image dimensions that Fonnell posted above you should indeed be able to crop the image and set the printing size in your printer settings. I have also had luck cropping and setting print size in photo editing software. The important thing to remember is to keep the proportions the same. When printing make sure you are unchecking any "fit to page" options and be sure you are printing at exact or real size. Everyone's printer software is different so you may need to look at a few drop down menus to find the proper settings.

  14. Gail,
Try not to stress on this too much. Have you made your vest?
    Work from your pattern
book it will help you avoid the stress of the printer. Why don't you start a fitting Vest and work with us on that? The test project above will wait.

Lets get something sewn, that is where the fun is!

  15. Hi Guys,

First, I just want to say - I love this site. It has truly been helpful when I am in doubt about something. My question is: when is the "sewcial"?

    ReplyDelete
  16. The sewcial already took place a few years ago. We could see if anyone wants us to organize a new one. Something for summer maybe? We hopefully are heading to summer!
